This is an advanced-level course designed for anyone interested in taking their creative pattern cutting skills to the next level, specially curated by experts in the fashion industry. In this advanced level you will learn industrial-standard innovative pattern cutting techniques such as TR Cutting (Transformational Reconstruction), 3D pattern cutting (Moulage), and creative pattern cutting using lines, shapes, and volume. Completion of this course will equip you to create distinctive couture pieces and intuitive 3D designs.

The collection must include a star look — a signature dress or jacket created using innovative pattern cutting techniques developed in Weeks 1 and 2. What is required All pattern pieces for each look (traced, labelled, seam allowance included). Three completed garment samples or toiles.

A written design rationale of 300 words explaining the techniques used and how each look connects to a cohesive collection concept. Fabric All fabric for the assessment is provided as part of the course price.

Certification Full programme certificate of completion awarded by Dr Ivie Liberty on successful review of the capsule collection and all three level sample projects.

Submission The completed collection must be submitted 1 week after the final Week 2 session. Submission includes all 3 finished garment samples (including the star look), all labelled pattern pieces, and the 300-word written design rationale. The review with Dr Ivie Liberty takes place face-to-face on the submission date

COURSE BREAKDOWN

Session 1 —3D Pattern Cutting (Moulage) & TR Cutting Introduction to 3D pattern cutting (Moulage) — draping directly on the stand to create pattern pieces. Introduction to TR cutting (Transformational Reconstruction) — deconstructing and reconstructing blocks to create unconventional silhouettes and innovative designs. Innovative pattern cutting using line, shape, and volume as design tools.

Session 2 —How to draft sleeve variations using all three innovative methods: Moulage, TR cutting, and line/shape/volume manipulation. Applying creative and structural sleeve solutions to the collection garment designs.

Session 3 — Creating the star look of the collection — a signature dress or jacket using innovative pattern cutting techniques. Students choose their star look concept and begin drafting and developing the pattern using the advanced methods covered in Sessions 13-14. This session is fully face-to-face and hands-on, with Dr Ivie Liberty guiding every step.

Dr Liberty provides individual hands-on technical support for each student's collection progress — reviewing pattern pieces, fitting toiles, correcting construction, and guiding finishing decisions for all 3 looks.

Structured critique at the end of Week 1. Each look is reviewed against the brief: concept, construction quality, innovative technique application, and cohesion across the 3 looks. Written and verbal feedback with clear actions for Week 2.

Session 4 —Developing the star look of the collection — a signature dress or jacket created using innovative pattern cutting techniques. Students finalise the concept for their star look and develop all pattern pieces using advanced methods covered in Week 5 (Moulage, TR cutting, or line/shape/volume). Dr Ivie Liberty provides face-to-face guidance throughout.

Session 5 —Hands-on construction of the star look dress or jacket. Cutting fabric, assembling the garment, and applying innovative construction methods. Grading for womenswear — industry-standard grading rules, size increments, and grading the bodice, skirt, and trouser block across a size range. Dr Ivie Liberty provides individual technical support and correction throughout the session.

Session 6 — Final construction, pressing, and finishing of the star look. Quality control across all 3 collection looks — seam finishing, hem, and presentation standard. Final collection critique: each of the 3 looks reviewed in full by Dr Ivie Liberty — construction quality, innovative technique, cohesion, and overall presentation. Written critique report provided. NB: Final assessment submitted 1 week after Week 2.

Integrated throughout all 6 sessions. Dr Liberty provides hands-on technical support for all 3 collection looks alongside star look development — fitting, finishing, corrections, and production-readiness checks.

No additional materials costs. All 2 weeks are delivered at our East London studio — face-to-face sessions.

Session duration All sessions are 4 hours each. 6 sessions across 2 weeks. 24 hours of total tuition.

Certification: A full advance programme certificate is awarded on successful completion of the Advanced capsule collection assessment.

Prerequisites: Advanced level requires completion of Level 2.

Cancellation: Once a 50% deposit is made no cancellations is allowed before the start date.
