PATTERN CUTTING FOR FASHION DESIGN LEVEL 1 — Womenswear [2 Weeks Intensive Programme]

This course is designed for anyone new to pattern cutting and specially curated by experts in the fashion industry. You will learn the art of pattern cutting using industry-standard techniques. From scratch you will create the foundational garments for the upper and lower part of the body. Pattern terminology and how to interpret finished patterns with confidence are also included.

Level 1 Assessment: Sample development project — one completed garment sample demonstrating foundational pattern cutting skills. Must be completed before Level 1 certification is awarded.

Session 1: Industrial Sewing Techniques Introduction to industrial sewing machines and overlockers. Machine settings, tension, and stitch types. Industrial seam finishes: overlocked, flat-felled, French seam, and bound seam. Pressing techniques and equipment. Production-standard construction methods and quality control basics.

Session 2: Session 1: Equipment, Terminology & Body Measurement How to use all specialist pattern cutting equipment. Understanding pattern cutting terminology in full. Taking accurate body measurements across all 12 key points. How to draft a basic bodice block from scratch to your own measurements.

Session 3: Session 2 & 3: Bodice Block, Dart Manipulation & Collars How to trace your pattern, add seam allowance, and label it correctly. Dart manipulation — 4 style variations using pivot and slash-and-spread methods. How to draft collars — 3 types: flat, stand, and wide-spread.

Session 4: Skirt Block How to draft a basic skirt block — 2 types: straight skirt and A-line skirt. Incorporating waist darts, hip line, side seam shaping, and seam allowance. Tracing, labelling, and preparing both blocks for production use.

Session 5: Sleeve Block & Basic Trouser Block How to draft a basic set-in sleeve block using armhole measurements from the bodice. Sleeve head height, pitch point notches, and ease. How to draft the basic front and back trouser block — crotch curve, inside leg, and waist darts.

Session 6: Trouser Block — 2 Types How to draft a wide-leg trouser from the basic block. How to draft a tapered/slim-leg trouser from the basic block. Completing and labelling all pieces ready for the sample development project.

Terms & Conditions

Deposit: 50% non-refundable deposit required to confirm your place. Remaining balance paid in agreed instalments.

All inclusive All tuition, pattern cutting tools, fabric, calico, workbooks, and certification are included in the price.

No additional materials costs. All 2 weeks are delivered at our East London studio — face-to-face sessions.

Session duration All sessions are 4 hours each. 6 sessions across 2 weeks. 24 hours of total tuition.

Certification: A full advance programme certificate is awarded on successful completion of the Advanced capsule collection assessment.

Prerequisites: Level 1 is open to all — no prior pattern cutting experience required.

Cancellation: Once a 50% deposit is made no cancellations is allowed before the start date.

Individual levels Levels can be enrolled individually subject to availability: Level 1 £1,750 | Level 2 £1950 | Advanced £2,550. All materials are included at the individual level rate.
